Online Safety

Staying safe online is taught and discussed regularly with our children at all ages and stages of their learning.

We take online safety very seriously here at Shankhill CofE Primary School. Our internet is put through a secure school network filter (CLEO and LUNS) which is regularly checked by staff to ensure it is filtering effectively. Staff have regular training updates on online safety, including termly briefings.

We also monitor and regularly check online usage of devices on our network via SENSO safeguarding cloud which alerts teachers to misuse and/or safeguarding content being accessed. This ensures that we meet the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023.

Our children are taught how to use the internet safely as part of the computing curriculum and also as part of their Personal, Social and Health Education. Keeping safe online is also revisited across our curriculum and can be found within our Reading Spine. Using real-life contexts and books as a stimulus deliberately provokes discussion, debate and a contextual understanding of why and how we should keep safe online. This keeps this important subject at the forefront of learning about personal safety for our children.

We send each Shankhill family and staff member a monthly Online Safety Newsletter to help to update everyone about the latest information available, and what is new, trending and causing concerns in the wider context of the UK, and beyond. These are emailed via our SWAY weekly newsletter, and are displayed in school too.

Regular updates and reminders take place and all children follow a simple code which is displayed in each classroom.
