Welcome
Welcome to our family friendly Shankhill School in the heart of the community, serving the area between Longtown, Penton and Brampton. We look forward to meeting you in person, but in the meantime, we hope that our website provides a taste of our wonderful, fun-loving, thriving school.
What a brilliant way to celebrate Shankhill’s 150th Anniversary year!
We are delighted and extremely proud to be able to share the report from our ungraded Ofsted inspection on 26 March 2024. We are thrilled that the Quality of Education, Safeguarding, Character Development and overall care and education from Early Years to Year 6 have been recognised as continuing to be good, but also deemed to be OUTSTANDING. However to award this grade, Ofsted plan to re-visit Shankhill to do a full graded inspection within one to two years.
The report states: “Outcome: There has been no change to this school’s overall judgement of good as a result of this ungraded (section 8) inspection. However, the evidence gathered suggests that the inspection grade might be outstanding if a graded (section 5) inspection were carried out now. The school’s next inspection will be a graded inspection.”
This is the best possible outcome that could have been achieved!
Shankhill welcomes children from all over our surrounding area, from both within and outside our official catchment. This is because Shankhill's catchment is so small due to historical river boundaries. Children choose to come to us because of the high quality of education and pastoral care we provide, as well as the fact that we may be their closest school, and transport can be provided. At Shankhill, we place our children and their families first in everything that we do. As Headteacher, I am very proud and priviledged to introduce myself and our wonderful school family. Along with our staff and our very experienced Governors, we are passionate about learning and providing a truely happy place to be.
We understand that choosing a Primary School for your child is an important decision. When you choose Shankhill you have our commitment that we will leave nothing to chance; together we will make this an enriching, academically challenging and thoroughly enjoyable time in your child’s life.
We are proud of our family school where our talented and inspirational staff and governors know each child as an individual; this process starts before your child’s first day, and is the beginning of a relationship that will build as your child grows in our care. We will work closely with you as parents during this time to ensure that your child’s learning journey is a successful, happy and fulfilling one.
Our staff are dedicated, talented, nurturing and knowledgeable. Your child will be challenged and supported to achieve across the full breadth of our exciting and individualised curriculum. We live out our vision of 'enabling everyone to flourish and live life in all it's fullness', encouraging every child to be 'the best me I can be' with clear aspirations and hopes for their future education and lives as they grow.
As a Church school, we also place great emphasis on nurturing our pupils’ growth as responsible citizens. We do this through exploring and developing the spiritual, moral, social and cultural aspects of learning, along with experiential learning about 'British Values and Christian 'Values for Life'. We educate the whole child, for learning and as a person through character education, exploring our values and virtues each day in school.
Our pupils are very well behaved, respectful and show developing levels of responsibility throughout school. We ensure all pupils play an active, positive part in their communities. We ensure all are listened to, all are valued, and through ongoing encouragement and celebrating individual successes, we develop our pupils’ self-esteem and aspirations.
Our school facilities are first class and extensive; we aim for all children to learn in the best possible environment. Our expansive grounds and outdoor facilities allow for a full range of curricular and extra-curricular activities; indoor and outdoor forest school activities and highly positive and active lunchtimes and playtimes. We have large, well resourced classrooms and a large multipurpose hall that can fit over 300 people in! Our new Mile Track ensures that we can reach all areas of our vast grounds including our garden, spiritual gazebo, bird hide and forest zones.
Shankhill is an inclusive school. We strive to achieve the highest standards for each and every child regardless of their starting points or individual needs. Whatever your child’s individual circumstances, we aim to tailor a curriculum to meet their needs; one which facilitates enjoyment in learning and with equal opportunities for all. We have a strong record of supporting pupils with special educational needs and pupils with english as an additional language to become confident and capable learners. Please explore our website further to find out more and contact us to arrange a visit.
Our website contains an abundance of photos and information, so please do explore it further. Also, please give us a call or email us if you would like to discuss things further or ask any questions you may have. On behalf of the pupils, staff, and Governors, I look forward to welcoming you to our school, Shankhill C of E Primary School.
